Lord Of The Rings Cast Reunion Digs Into Mordor Speech Meme (VIDEO)

Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings films are wonderful adventures throughout the lands of Tolkien’s imagination and hard work. The amazing scenes and incredible acting provide fans with a living, breathing, and magical world filled with discovery, but bringing the movies to life took considerable time and effort. To help raise money for the charity No Kid Hungry, a new episode of Josh Gad’s Reunited Apart YouTube series has revealed the juicy inside details on the film – from the writing to the casting choices and more. The episode notably digs into some of the wonderful lines recreated by the cast themselves, including the meme-worthy “one does not” speech.

In the episode, the cast revealed an impressive amount of trivia such as lines they remembered from the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as insight into how they learned Elvish and Old English languages. Peter Jackson memorably revealed the story behind Sean Bean’s iconic “one does not simply walk into Mordor” line as Boromir at the Council of Elrond, which has since lived on as a popular internet meme. The line is as follows: “One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its black gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep. The Great Eye is ever watchful.”

According to the director, the line was actually an on-the-spot inclusion, having been written the night before and given to him the day of shooting. In order to deliver the line, Bean was revealed to have taken a unique approach by taping the speech to his knee. Jackson mentions that as the speech goes on fans can actually see moments where Bean glimpses down at a print of his speech. “If you watch the scene now, you’ll see every time that Sean has to check his script,” the director points out.

This fun bit of trivia not only adds insight into an immortal internet meme, but an interesting and hilarious look into the creation of the Lord of the Rings movies.
