Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Series Hires Original Anime Composer
As anime becomes more widely accepted in the cultural mainstream, classic Japanese animated franchises become more of a fixation for television and streaming networks to supply for their audiences. Netflix has especially made a point to appeal to anime fans, finding great success with original anime series like Aggretsuko and the Castlevania anime series. They have also tried adapting anime for live-action to varying success, but hopes have been high for their upcoming live-action Cowboy Bebop series. So far, the project has shown intent to respect the original vision for the franchise, with the anime’s director Shinchiro Watanabe being on board to consult for the series. Now, that respect continues with the confirmation of another key creative figure from the anime returning.

Netflix released a new video promoting the new live-action Cowboy Bebop series on their official Netflix Geeked Twitter account. The video actually provides the freshest view of the main cast’s looks for the series, with many on Twitter having praised John Cho’s luscious long hair matching Spike Spiegel’s from the anime. Also present are Mustafa Shakir’s slick style as Jet Black and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine. As the trio dance to the original anime series’s theme song, it is revealed that the anime’s original composer, Yoko Kanno, would return to provide music for the new series.
The video ends with the text saying “See you this fall”, matching the “See you space cowboy” text that would end each episode of the original anime series. This would imply the live-action Cowboy Bebop series is set to premiere this fall on Netflix, after long delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and an injury suffered by John Cho. This series has been in the making for quite a while, and a few months wait will feel as fast as counting down with a 3, 2, 1… let’s jam.
