Life Is Strange Developer Announces Second Studio
Game development of narrative-focused games have grown in frequency and platform in the most recent gaming generation. While Telltale Games’s rise to popularity has come crashing down, other narrative-favoring developers continue to thrive. One such developer is Dontnod Entertainment, which became well known in recent years for its award-winning Life Is Strange franchise. The success of that series has led Dontnod to increase their output, with a recently concluded sequel to Life Is Strange, as well as new franchises like Twin Mirror and the upcoming Tell Me Why. It seems that Dontnod’s growth has only just begun, as the Life Is Strange developer has announced a new second studio.
As reported on GamesIndustry.biz, Life Is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment has announced their new development studio location. This second studio will be located in Montréal, Canada, and will act as sister studio to the original Paris studio location. Oskar Guilbert, CEO of Dontnod Entertainment, had this to say about the new facility:
Our goal is to create video games as close as possible to our community’s expectations. With this new international team, we will be able to envision even more ambitious titles and keep writing wonderful stories for our players.”
Dontnod also confirmed that this new studio will begin work on a new title, the identity of which has yet to be announced. Some have theorized that it may be a new sequel or spinoff of Life Is Strange, while others suggest it would be a brand new IP. No matter what the new game ends up being, if it is one that takes place in North America, it will certainly benefit by having a team more familiar with Western socio-cultural minutiae. Even if it isn’t, that new game will surely be riveting enough to ensure that players Don’t Nod off while playing it.
