Jump Force Reveals Rurouni Kenshin Characters In New Footage (VIDEO)

Several of the mightiest fighters in manga are assembling for the upcoming crossover title Jump Force and fans are surely excited to bring the thunder as their favorite Shonen Jump characters. Several favorites such as Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, and Bleach have already been put forward in the forthcoming clash, with even more teased for the game’s eventual 2019 release.

Bandai Namco has now revealed a look at Rurouni Kenshin‘s contributions to the roster, showing fighters Himura Kenshin and Shishio Makoto crossing blades in a new gameplay trailer. As the ensuing battle ramps up, Kenshin can be seen sporting some serious battle damage as he goes against the might of Shishio’s formidable and fiery arsenal. Check it out below.

However exciting the above footage may be, the inclusion of Rurouni Kenshin nonetheless continues to spark controversy. The uneasy attitudes stem from ‘Kenshin’ creator Nobuhiro Watsuki and his publicized 2017 conviction for possession of child pornography. Watsuki’s actions were met with a sole fine of 200,000 yen (about $2000 USD) and the artist was able to resume work on Rurouni Kenshin within only a few months. Shortly put, fans were not convinced he had seen proper justice.

While the long-running series has continued to publish in Japan, Rurouni Kenshin was not as quick to return in the West; with Viz Media placing English localization on an indefinite hiatus. This makes Jump Force among the first we’ve seen of the franchise since Watsuki’s conviction and reactions are predictably mixed on the debut. Some are able to morally separate the man from his creations while others straight-up refuse to show any kind support.

Jump Force releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 15th, 2019.
