Jessica Chastain Announces Her Villainous Role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Ever since the recent casting announcement confirmed that the main actors, including Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Beast, from the prequel X-Men films would return for the upcoming film, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the next big news X-Men fans would be anticipating turned to the casting of the sequel’s villain. The studio confirmed that the villain would indeed be Lilandra, the central antagonist of the Dark Phoenix saga in the comics, but did not reveal who would portray this character. Now, a new Instagram post has taken the web by storm, in which Jessica Chastain announces her acceptance of the villain role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

The photo seen above was posted by Jessica Chastain to her official Instagram account, in which she announced that she would be joining the X-Men: Dark Phoenix cast during their upcoming shoot in Montreal. In this post, Chastain hints at the enemy relationship her character has with McAvoy’s Professor X by saying she’ll “make him cry so hard”. She also acknowledges their previous collaboration in the film The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby by sharing a photo of them from that project.
In the comics, Lilandra Neramani is an alien member of the Shi’ar race who tries to imprison the Dark Phoenix, which lives inside Jean Grey. It is unknown how much of her comic version will be utilized in the film version, but based on Chastain’s post and her previous action roles, it can be expected to see her face off against the X-Men in an explosive way.
