HTC Vive Receives a Wireless Upgrade Kit – Sells Out in Minutes

On November 10th, HTC and TPCAST announced a wireless accessory kit was available for pre-order for the HTC Vive. The sale went live at 7 A.M. Pacific the next day, and sold out in less than 20 minutes. Both fortunately and unfortunately for prospective international shoppers, it was not available to purchase outside of China. Despite prior announcements, that disclosed information for global purchase.

If, somehow, you manage to get someone to buy it for you and ship it to the United States – the second batch of HTC Vive virtual reality headsets are anticipated to restock soon. According to UploadVR, Alvin Wang Graylin (Vive’s Regional President in China) mentioned that a second batch may be available for pre-order next month.

Virtual reality headsets still are not cheap. With the wireless kit for HTC Vive retailing for $220, on top of the $799 price tag for the original headset, the total comes out to $1,019.00. This price does not include any applicable taxes, fees, or shipping and handling – if there are. Certainly, it may depend on where you reside. Retail for the wireless kit to be sold in the United States is yet to be determined. Although, bonus! If you buy the Vive today, you get The Gallery – Episode 1: Call of the Starseed and Zombie Training Simulator for free. Deal?

In other news, the Oculus Rift just received some rad hardware adjustments in order to accommodate a wider range of PCs. In comparison to the Vive, it is about two-hundred dollars cheaper. The graphic and image quality are pretty much the same, with some differences in design and compatibility.

What do you think of the wireless kit for the HTC Vive? Is it too expensive? Is it a step in the right direction for virtual reality? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to keep up with Don’t Feed the Gamers for all your gaming news!
