Rumor: Grand Theft Auto VI Release Year And Other Details Leaked (VIDEO)
Despite the fact that Grand Theft Auto V released in 2013, the development from Rockstar Games continues strong with consistent updates, events, and additional downloadable content. In fact, the support the game has continuously received is typically reserved for MMOs and other much larger games. Even so, a sequel may be in the works and it could very well be time to bring in the next generation… with Grand Theft Auto VI.
According to a report by Rooster Teeth subsidiary, The Know, a source tipped them off on the sequel and even relayed details such as the game’s setting, broad storyline, and more. Codenamed Project Americas, Grand Theft Auto VI will be taking place in Miami or a facsimile city of its likeness like Vice City. In fact, players will get to travel back and forth between South America and North America in the game, meaning the scope of content and gameplay time will likely far surpass GTA V.
Based on that knowledge, there’s plenty of speculation to be had. The main story of Grand Theft Auto VI may involve the cocaine smuggling rings made infamous during the 80s and 90s. With that being said, this sequel won’t be coming out anytime soon. As the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 is still heavily in development until October 26th of this year, the source informed that GTA VI won’t be making major headlines until 3 to 4 years from now. That puts the sequel for a 2021 or 2022 release year.
Given how popular and profitable GTA Online has been, it seems highly likely that the sequel will feature an online component as well, but what does that say for the fate of the current one? According to an interview with Take Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, it was never the intention to make GTA Online a permanent operation. However, that aspect has continuously funneled money into the company and has only increased the IPs value. So, as speculation, the sequel will likely have some sort of relaunch or similar feature.
