God of War Blends Classic Latin With Old Norse Music For The Game’s Score, Listen Here (VIDEO)

Old Norse

The upcoming God of War title is just around the corner arriving on April 20th. As with any legendary game, God of War will feature an impressive score fitting of both the Norse mythology and Kratos’ name. As the release date gets closer, Sony and Santa Monica Studio continue to tease fans with small behind-the-scenes videos. The latest of which focuses on the gorgeous score for the title featuring Old Norse vocals and influences throughout.

Unlike previous God of War titles, which shared Greek mythology as their core theme, the upcoming game is set in the Norse mythos. In order to reflect this major deviation, the game’s Lead Music Producer Peter Scaturro shares some insight on the making of the game’s score. The video below includes travelling to Iceland where the team hired a translator as well as Schola Cantorum, a popular choir based out of Reykjavík. They first recorded the Icelandic choir in order to focus on the authenticity of the lyrics. Then the team took the sonic blueprint and had another choir specializing in deep bass notes sing on top of it for a dark and ominous sound.

A game’s soundtrack helps bring out the emotions of both characters and the scenes featured throughout the story. Scaturro shared his hope that fans will be able to see this alongside a “sense of authenticity that comes through in the music and the support it brings to the environment the game is set in.”

God of War will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4. Let us know your thoughts on the Old Norse score for God of War and more in the comments section below. As always, don’t forget to follow Don’t Feed the Gamers on Twitter for 24/7 coverage of all things gaming and entertainment.
