Fighting games have been a big part of gaming history, and one particular fighting game that seems to have shown its impact lately is Super Smash Bros. Nintendo’s crossover fighting game has inspired other companies to pit their available mascots against each other. The most recent example of these has been Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, which features many of the children’s cable network’s animated characters, including Spongebob Squarepants and Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The game’s developers have promised multiple free additional characters on the way, and the first has now been confirmed to be none other than Garfield the cat.

Developer Ludosity has announced the first free DLC fighter for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl through a new trailer released on IGN’s YouTube channel. The footage shows the game’s starting lineup of fighters, including Ren & Stimpy and Michaelangelo the Ninja Turtle, then confirming the first DLC character for the game is none other than Garfield the cat. The infamous lasagna-loving, lazy feline shows a surprising amount of fighting skill as many of his moves are shown off.

In addition, Ludosity also revealed Garfield’s full moveset on the game’s official Twitter account. Many of the moves feature Garfield’s favorite foods, including chicken legs, donuts, and of course, lasagna. The moves also make use of Garfield’s comic roots, with speech and thought bubbles appearing in other moves. The Garfield DLC is now available for all of the game’s platforms, except for Nintendo Switch users, who will have to wait a little later for the drop later this month. Supposedly, there will be another free DLC character in the near future, and more paid DLC fighters coming at a later time. For now, this is a great free gift for owners that will make even Mondays more bearable.
