Frank Oz and Ewan McGregor Stealthily Evade Confirming Possible Roles in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Future Star Wars

Frank Oz and Ewan McGregor recently had interviews about subjects non-Star Wars related. That of course didn’t stop questions about future Star Wars projects to be asked, especially with The Last Jedi on the horizon. Sadly, the two did not divulge any new information about their possible roles, but the way they evaded the questions raised a few eyebrows. Their maybe-maybe-not involvement would center around Frank Oz being the voice of Yoda and Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi.

Future Star Wars

Frank Oz recently had an interview with Variety about the legacy of Jim Henson’s Muppets. Did you know he was the voice of Miss Piggy? He voices many character including Grover but Miss Piggy – that was a shocker. That being said, he was asked questions of his involvement in Star Wars: The Last Jedi as well. Upon being asked if he would reprise the role of Yoda, he merely stated:

I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.

Well now if that isn’t a classic would if I could but I can’t scenario. At the very least, he wants to talk about Yoda. While he also mentioned not seeing Rogue One, he did share his thoughts on The Force Awakens as well:

I thought J.J. Abrams did a great job of synthesizing all this information. It was a tough thing for J.J. to be asked to do—to transition to a new family of “Star Wars” and still pay homage and respect to the others. It’s different from the way that George Lucas would have done it. George would probably have had a more overall arch that would follow the other stories and have a moral depth. But, my gosh, what J.J. did was really entertaining. It was so much fun.

Its good to see the thoughts of those who have worked on a series like Star Wars. They provide insight in ways a fan cannot, which is quite intriguing. While Oz was more evasive about the subject, Ewan McGregor blatantly ignored any questions about his involvement in future Star Wars movies.

Future Star Wars

McGregor has stated in the past that he’d love to be involved with future Star Wars projects but in a recent reddit AMA promoting his new movie Trainspotting 2, he was oddly silent on the subject. In fact, for the most part it seems as though he completely ignored anything Star Wars related. Suspicious, very suspicious indeed. That didn’t stop Redditors from peppering the AMA with Obi Wan and broader Star Wars questions and references. Interwebs will be interwebs, as they say.

Would you like to see either Oz or McGregor in the upcoming Star Wars The Last Jedi film? Rumors have also been fluttering of an Obi Wan spin-off have been floating around for the last few months – Would that make for an interesting movie? Let us know in the comments below.
