Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn Prologue Anime Trailer Revealed (VIDEO)
Yesterday, Square Enix announced that Episode Ardyn, the last DLC scheduled for Final Fantasy XV, would be getting its own prologue anime, proving that despite the leaving of former Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata amid the cancelling of the rest of the title’s scheduled DLC episodes, the game still has plenty of story left to tell. The Japanese publisher promised in a recent Facebook post that a teaser trailer for the prologue anime would be released today, and indeed it has. Check it out below:
The prologue anime looks to tell the story of Ardyn Izunia’s earlier years, before he is consumed with darkness and his desire for revenge. As the anime acts as a companion to Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn, the events that transpire during the show will likely feed directly into the upcoming DLC, much in the same way Final Fantasy XV: Brotherhood does for the game’s main story. Here’s what I had to say about Episode Ardyn after seeing the DLC’s teaser trailer:
As with the previous FFXV episodic DLC content, Episode Ardyn looks to be quite an interesting departure from the main storyline, acting as somewhat of a prequel given how young King Regis looks at the end of the trailer. While Ardyn’s past was only lightly touched upon during Noctis’ journey, Episode Ardyn seems ready and willing to take a deeper dive and explore some of the motivation behind the charismatic ‘chancellor.’ According to Square Enix, players will “learn more about Ardyn’s backstory in a story of death and restoration.”
Episode Ardyn will release in March 2019. Final Fantasy XV is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
