Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn Revealed In New Trailer (VIDEO)

Today is a sad day for Final Fantasy fans. Earlier, it was announced that game director Hajime Tabata has departed from both Square Enix and Luminous Productions in the wake of the cancelling of 3 of the four planned DLC episodes for Final Fantasy XV. The three episodes that have been cancelled are Episode Aranea, Episode Noctis, and Episode Lunafreya, leaving the fourth and only surviving DLC, Episode Ardyn, which is slated to arrive in March 2019. As a bit of a silver lining, Square Enix has released a new trailer for Episode Ardyn for a glimpse of what’s to come. Check it out below:

Episode Ardyn puts players in the driver seat of the villainous Ardyn Izunia, whose capabilities rightly match those of Noctis, albeit with a spookier, more ghostly execution. As such, Ardyn is capable of calling upon the same abilities that both King Regis and Noctis use, accompanied by an eerie, red glow.

As with the previous FFXV episodic DLC content, Episode Ardyn looks to be quite an interesting departure from the main storyline, acting as somewhat of a prequel given how young King Regis appears towards the end of the trailer. While Ardyn’s past was only lightly touched upon during Noctis’ journey, Episode Ardyn seems ready and willing to take a deeper dive and explore some of the motivation behind the charismatic ‘chancellor.’ According to Square Enix, players will “learn more about Ardyn’s backstory in a story of death and restoration.”

Episode Ardyn is expected to arrive in March 2019. Final Fantasy XV is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
