Beloved Studio Ghibli closed their doors indefinitely in 2014 and many fans wondered if the studio would ever make a return. In a recent press statement, Studio Ghibli revealed that Miyazaki is currently involved in a brand new movie after they apparently reopened last month. They had a small intimate ceremony where Miyazaki got the old team back together to tell them about his ideas for the new film project. Earlier this year, it was reported that Miyazaki was planning to make his come back from retirement soon in order to make one last movie and now we have a concrete answer. Can we get an amen?
It was also reported that Studio Ghibli is now hiring new artists for their team and that production on this mystery film will begin sometime later this year. Some rumors that have started floating around claim that the new movie could possibly be Boro the Caterpillar, which Miyazaki had started to develop years ago and was intended as a short film. The last movie he completed was The Wind Rises released in 2013 and the Director is also well known for other great titles such as My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke.
