Fallout: New Vegas 2 Rumored To Be In Talks At Obsidian
The Fallout franchise has a complex history of titles filled with cancellations, changing hands between developers and publishers alike, as well as backlash surrounding some of the latest titles that have arrived such as Fallout 76. Still, there are quite a few gems within the franchise such as Fallout 3, which brought a totally new perspective to the franchise, and Fallout: New Vegas, which evolved further into an enjoyable experience for fans through its various mechanics and incredible storyline. Now it seems there may be hope to continue the tales of the Mojave thanks to new rumors about a Fallout: New Vegas 2 project that could be in the works.
A recent premium podcast run by Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb saw the host make a claim that the original developer of Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment is in early talks about continuing the franchise. Considering the title’s success and the continued popularity of open-world titles, it wouldn’t be too much of a reach to imagine the company is at least talking about a future for the New Vegas series. Still, there’s been no confirmation from Obsidian Entertainment or Microsoft about whether they plan on bringing the series back for round two or if there could be another Fallout title set on the West Coast anytime soon.
“This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and those words are ‘Obsidian’ and ‘New Vegas 2. We’re talking years and years away. There’s at least an interest and conversations happening about making something like that actually a reality.”
With Fallout publisher Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment now being under the same Microsoft roof, the idea of Fallout: New Vegas 2 is probably more likely than ever. The CEO of Obsidian, Feargus Urquhart mentioned in an interview back in 2013 that the developers at Obsidian would love to do another Fallout title, be it a sequel to New Vegas or a separate title altogether. He did express that the team would most likely stay on the West Coast and continue to be separate from the core Fallout series.
It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for the New Vegas developer whether that’s a sequel, a title set in a different location, or even a new game entirely.
