While Fallout 76 has stolen the spotlight in the last few days, it is likely that fans will have to wait a while to see the game land on their favorite gaming platform. While the wait may seem arduous, there is something happening in the background that could make players forget all about the new game. Enter a new trailer for the Fallout New California mod complete with release date!

The team over at Radian-Helix Media have been hard at work with a small team trying to this project finished. As seen above, the hard work on Fallout New California hasn’t bee wasted. The team seems to have everything worked out and ready to go according to a recent announcement:

We’ll be having BETA sign ups in July if anyone would like to come test the mod — the Main quest is now feature complete in the core narratives, and we have a cap over the parts that aren’t accessible (because there was no one available to code them. Mostly a two man operation here in New California’s CIC.) The mod art is locked, the bugs are near non-existent, and everything – for the most part – is ready to go. “

This may, however, beg the question among some fans why Fallout New California, a prequel to New Vegas, isn’t releasing sooner. The reason is simple, quality and experience is holding the team back just a little while longer. Getting things up to 60FPS is hard on the small team, and one other reason that might be even more important has set the project to a fall release:

Because something is missing — and all the testing guys noticed — is side quests. Again, not the end of the world, but you hit this story with huge replete branches 16,000 lines of dialogue long you expect some little moments with characters off to the side of the big arcs, and there just aren’t any. Again, because there was no one to code it! I’d also like to take time to revise some plot holes and gaps in the open possibilities that appeared in testing.”

A lot of love and careful consideration is going into Fallout New California and fans would be remiss not to give it a chance on release day. The team has plenty of more content to explore, and interested parties can check it all out on their website.  Fans can expect the mod to release on October 23rd, 2018 for PC.
