Fallout 76: West Virginia Teams Up With Bethesda To Encourage Tourists

Most fans looking forward to Fallout 76 know by now that Bethesda’s latest entry in the series takes place in West Virginia, made rather obvious by the catchy cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” With both the song and the game reminding folks of how glorious of a place West Virginia is. The state officials are certainly in agreement, as both the Governor of West Virginia and the West Virginia Tourism Office have both announced that they are teaming up with Bethesda in celebration of those ‘country roads.’

“It’s finally time the rest of the world sees what a gem West Virginia is,” said Governor Jim Justice. “For years, I’ve been saying we have it all: beautiful scenery, the best people you could ask for and more. And now, we get to share a piece of that with people all over the world through the unique lens of this video game.”

“I think the world was caught by surprise when Bethesda released the trailer with an eerily beautiful post-apocalyptic West Virginia set to a slightly more futuristic version of our state’s anthem,” Tourism Commissioner Chelsea Ruby revealed. “In just a matter of hours, the internet was abuzz with West Virginians excited to see a glimpse of home and gamers excited to learn more about their new, beautiful virtual destination.”

Our goal is to welcome each and every one of the game’s players to Almost Heaven. Bethesda has been a terrific partner since day one. They’ve really embraced West Virginia and its beauty. We believe this unique partnership has tremendous potential to bring folks to visit the Mountain State.”

Though the particular details of the team-up are still unknown, a partnership of any kind between the state and Bethesda can only be beneficial, and it’ll also likely mean lots of Vault Boy bobbleheads springing up at popular tourist destinations.

Fans can begin exploring West Virginia in-game when Fallout 76 launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 14, 2018.
