Fallout 76 Will Feature Skyrim-Like Quest System

Fallout 76 Will Feature Skyrim-Like Quest System

With the release date for Fallout 76 quickly approaching, Bethesda has begun to reveal new details on what players can expect to be doing in post-apocalyptic West Virginia. Loads of new information has surfaced about the content of the game thanks to a recent article in GameInformer, with one of the subjects being that of the game’s quest system. Based on the breakdown provided, it appears that the system will be familiar to the one in the latest numbered entry in Bethesda’s other popular franchise, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

In regards to the main storyline quest, the game kicks off with your player realizing that the Overseer left the vault before anyone else. “She left before everybody,” Todd Howard reveals. “She left secret instructions for you, and that’s kind of the jumping-on point for what we call the main quest. At the end of it, you launch the nukes.”

The nukes are a game system, but they are also part of the main story.”

Of course, players will also (optionally) contend with loads of side quests while following the instructions left by the Overseer. Players will reportedly pick up tons of optional tasks, and will end up having a menu absolutely full of quests they will need to work through to complete. “Given the nature of the game, you can jump ahead in parts and go back to others,” Howard says.

In regards to how the questing system is not dissimilar to that found in Skyrim,  NPCs won’t be the only source of quests for the player. Players can also find them in certain holotapes, terminals, notes, and being in close proximity to certain locations. “You’ll wander near something, and will be alerted of a quest, like ‘explore this mine,'” Fallout 76 project lead Jeff Gardiner reveals.

In the past, we thought that was maybe a little gamey, but we want you to find it [quests]. We’re being very proactive with where this content is. You’ll have a lot to do very quickly.”

That shouldn’t be a problem for those looking to sink hundreds of hours into exploring all West Virgina has to offer. Fallout 76 launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 14th, 2018.

So, thoughts on the questing system in Fallout 76? Do you plan on completing as many side quests as possible first, or are you planning on gunning through the main storyline first?
