Dungeons & Dragons Is Getting "Seven Or Eight" New Video Games

It is a very good time to be a Dungeons & Dragons fan. Earlier this year it was announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 was in development by Larian Studios, the folks behind Divinity: Original Sin 2. If that wasn’t enough, The Game Awards 2019 saw the reveal of Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, a third-person action RPG that will be released late next year. Now, it appears that the D&D train has no brakes, as it appears that we’ll be getting even more D&D titles within the next few years.

The news comes by way of Wizards of the Coast President Chris Cocks, who recently spoke with the folks over at Gamesindustry.biz about what fans can expect from Dungeons & Dragons in the future. According to him, we’ll be getting “seven or eight” games of various sizes within the next few years. “We want each game to have a point of view, and to really keep on just a couple of things and do it really, really well,” Cocks said.

What you don’t want to do is have every game in the franchise try to do the same thing, and try to do everything all at once.”

Chris Cocks also spoke about some of what fans can expect from the games themselves, which will seemingly vary enough in range and intent that each one will offer something unique. “In future games we will explore different areas, whether it’s grand strategy and combat at army level scale, to really intimate character portrayal,” Cocks said. Given how hyped fans have already become for Dark Alliance, D&D seems poised to dominate their own corner of the video game landscape in the coming years.
