Cyberpunk 2077 is easily one of the most popular games audiences are waiting to get their hands on later this year. The excitement still persists even after developer CD Projekt Red delayed the game by several months to add a bit more polish before its full launch. Given that this delay pushed the game’s launch to further in 2020, many have wondered whether a release for next-generation consoles could also be coming later this year. Now, it seems that not only will the game be on Xbox Series X, but the game’s owners on Xbox One will be able to upgrade to Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X for free.

CD Projekt Red recently announced the unbelievable Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X upgrade deal on their official Twitter account. The tweet was made in response to Microsoft’s recent reveal of its Smart Delivery technology, which allows Xbox One purchases to be fully upgradable to an Xbox Series X without an additional purchase. Not long after the showcase, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 would be eligible for this free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version, given the Xbox One version was already bought.

After previous teases, this would seem to be the first specific announcement, albeit indirectly, that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to the Xbox Series X, so it’s plausible that a PlayStation 5 version would not be out of the question. As of writing, Sony has yet to announce such plans or even a similar cross-generation deal for the PlayStation 5, so it is unknown if the same upgrade could be possible for those who would purchase Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4.

More news about Cyberpunk 2077 in relation to the next-generation of consoles should likely be coming in the next few months as the consoles make their way to their slated Holiday 2020 launch. For now, Xbox One owners can relax knowing that their day-one purchase of Cyberpunk 2077 will not come without a free next-gen upgrade. Now, if only the cybernetic implant upgrades in the game could be free as well. I know I’d turn my body into a full mech suit.
