Dragon’s Dogma 2 Reportedly Under Development
Last year, Dragon’s Dogma gained traction on the web when Netflix announced an animated series, which finally released in September this year. They released a Nintendo Switch port for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen in 2019 as well. News on the game, however, have been notably nonexistent throughout that time. That is until a leak put Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the map.
According to IGN, Capcom revealed they were a victim of a “customized ransomware attack” that granted hackers into their network that led to jeopardized information of its employees, business partners, and customers. The data breach resulted in a leaked list of games on Capcom’s schedule of announcements within the next few years. It just so happens to include the sequel for Dragon’s Dogma too.
Leaked Capcom Games
- Resident Evil Outbreak – Q4 FY21
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Q2 FY22
- Street Fighter 6 – Q3 FY22
- Rockman [Mega Man in North America] Match – Q3 FY22
- Resident Evil 4 Remake – Q4 FY22
- Monster Hunter 6 – Q2 FY23
- Biohazard Apocalypse – Q3 FY23
- “SSF6” – Q4 FY23
- Final Fight Remake – Q2 FY24
- Power Stone Remake – Q3 FY24
- Ultra SF6 – Q4 FY24
- Resident Evil Hank [likely, “Hunk”] – Q4 FY24
It’s no surprise that Dragon’s Dogma fans would hold this leak with high hopes. It’s been years since the original game debuted back in 2012. In the several years that followed, Capcom released an enhanced version for Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch titled Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Even though the Switch port just happened in 2019, it’s been more than eight years since the original game released.
IGN sources confirmed that some of the games on the list above are legitimate, but the information accompanying each title may be out of date. Capcom has not released a statement to confirm or deny the leaked information. For the time being, the company is focused on recovering losses and apprehend the people behind the attack.
As with any leak, it’s a good idea to take it with a healthy amount of doubt and skepticism. With that said, it seems unlikely that Capcom would released a remastered version of Dragon’s Dogma since the enhanced version has been repeatedly released over two generations of consoles. I personally don’t think it would be the wisest move. However, if a sequel were in the works? Well, that’s worth celebrating for Dragon’s Dogma fans.
