Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 Unlikely To Release In 2021
The video game industry is still very much inhabiting the early part of 2021, and gamers are looking forward to the new titles arriving in the coming year. Blizzard Entertainment has some of these highly-anticipated titles, particularly Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV. While Diablo IV seemed a bit further away in its development cycle from the release stage, Overwatch 2 seemed to be closer to its final state. Gameplay of Overwatch 2 had been seen at previous events like BlizzCon, and rumors had suggested it could have been released this year. Well, according to Blizzard, it would seem that Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 2021 release dates may be out of the question.

Gaming industry icon and Cool Ranchiness himself, Geoff Keighley on Twitter, has reported on statements made by Activision Blizzard on their latest investor’s earnings call, as have other sources that also listened in on the call. During the call, the topic of future major releases coming in the future from Blizzard Entertainment were discussed, namely Diablo IV and Overwatch 2. During the call, an Activision Blizzard representative stated that Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 2021 release dates are most likely not going to happen. While that did not seem to be probably for Diablo IV, it does probably come as a disappointment for Overwatch 2 hopefuls, as the game appeared to be in a somewhat polished state before.
Many are attributing this perceived delay to complications in development brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to many developers like Blizzard have their employees work remotely from their homes. This practice makes development more difficult and more time-consuming than it would under normal circumstances. While this is unfortunate for impatient fans hoping for Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 2021 releases, hopefully they can see that this is probably going to be beneficial for the safety of Blizzard employees. These games may take more time, but knowing Blizzard’s commitment to quality, the payload is always worth the wait.
