Destiny 2 Year 3 Will Feature Four Different Seasons

Destiny 2

Bungie has played around with a variety of different content updates and events over the last couple of years with Destiny 2. While many of them were quite interesting, bringing new types of gameplay gear along the way, the developers have deemed the former development process to be unsustainable in the long term. As such, future updates will arrive in the form of a more streamlined and systemic approach to development, beginning with a set number of seasons throughout Year 3 of the game.

Destiny 2 will see a total of 4 seasons beginning in Year 3, each arriving with their own challenges, gear, lore, and more. Franchise Director Luke Smith has mentioned in the past that the team at Bungie hopes to one day build an ever-growing world, that isn’t quite an open-world but will continue to grow alongside players as time goes on. The seasons of Year 3 will be a step in the right direction, and Smith explains in a new post that they’ll act as timed events that will eventually expire before moving on to the next season.

Players will be able to earn these loot items through a new Rank unlock system similar to those seen in games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Dauntless. Guardians will also receive a seasonal artifact that will unlock additional mods to help customize players’ characters. Players will be able to purchase the different seasons individually rather than be forced to get them all at once, though it appears that some content will be free for all players each season as the developers want to new seasonal events to be an extension of the current end-game content.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 but will eventually be released on the Google Stadia as well.

The upcoming changes to the way seasons work is going to be quite significant, do you think they’ll be a good or bad addition to the title?
