‘Underground’ Descent Prequel Now Getting Physical Console Release

Descent Prequel Now Getting Physical Console Release

Following the project’s successful Kickstarter campaign, Descendent Studios has been busy as of late, developing a prequel to the classic 90s game Descent. The throwback title has been underway since 2015, with the team completing Early Access playtesting earlier this year. Descent: Underground had since gone, well, underground to finish development for the game’s planned Linux, Mac, and PC releases. Things have changed, however, as Descendent has now partnered with publisher Little Orbit to also bring the Descent prequel to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Descendent Studios CEO Eric Peterson stated:

Little Orbit is helping us to enrich players’ experience in Descent: Underground with a larger storyline campaign, excellent art, and deeper metagame. With Little Orbit on board, we’re progressing faster towards delivering the amazing modern rebirth that Descent deserves!”

Along with the Descent prequel’s arrival on consoles, Little Orbit has also promised both digital and physical disc releases for the game, a growing rarity with independently published tiles. What’s becoming more common is Little Orbit’s involvement with Kickstarter projects, with them taking the reigns of Playdek’s Unsung Story just a few months ago. Given the studio’s previous reputation for making middling kid-friendly material, it’ll be interesting to see how they use these more mature projects to forge a new identity for themselves.
