Dead By Daylight Patch Brings Significant Changes to Killers

Dead by Daylight Killers

Now that Behaviour Interactive’s 1v4 survival game Dead by Daylight has made its way to console, the team has developed a new patch that will bring some significant changes to those that choose to fill the role of one of the game’s many killers. Fans that have playing on PC for a while may have some difficulties adjusting, but newcomers are sure to be the most benefited as the new patch makes the variables for a killer to win a match more straight forward.

The new patch (1.5.3) is aptly named the Victory Cube Patchand brings with it a massive change to the way a killer can win a match. Previously all players, killers and survivors alike, were on a Bloodpoint system. With the patch, killers will now have a Killer Goals structure to determine victories and rankings. This means that killers can focus on the brutal nature of being a murderous psychopath rather than spending time farming Bloodpoints. Simply hook and kill all survivors to win and increase ranking.

As seasoned players of Dead by Daylight are aware, throughout each Trial each player accumulates what is known as pips. These are earned by performing various tasks during each round. Pips are earned by each player individually, meaning that a successful four player escape will not necessarily benefit every survivor. So, if you’re just hiding in a corner while the other survivors are out firing up the generators and dodging the killer, when the exit doors open and you make your way through, you won’t be earning any bonuses due to your lack of participation. The changes to how killer pips are earned can potentially change how Trials are played.

Dead by Daylight hook

As mentioned above, killers now have Killer Goals. The more Killer Goals that are achieved, the more pips will be earned post Trial. This will entice killers to stalk, hook, and murder all four survivors, rather than focusing on tormenting just one or two. Each survivor will be worth 4 Killer Goals, making a total of 16 obtainable Goals per trial. There are three phases of impaling a survivor on a hook, one goal point will be awarded for each phase. The final point will be earned when a survivor dies. Here is a list of how pips will be awarded for the amount of Killer Goals achieved:

  • Less than 7 Killer Goals – Entity Displeased (-1  Pip)
  • 8 Killer Goals – Brutal Killer (No Pip Change)
  • 9-15 Killer Goals – Ruthless Killer (+1 Pip)
  • 16 Killer Goals – Merciless Killer (+2 Pip)

There is only a maximum of 16 Killer Goals achievable in each round of Dead by Daylight. The obvious focus is to hook and kill as many survivors as possible, but there is benefit to using each killer’s Momento Mori, which is basically a special move that can cause instant death to a survivor or all survivors. Using a Memento Mori will grant the player a +2 Killer Goal. While the Memento Mori is a satisfying way to end the lives of those pesky survivors, if not used at the right time it could cost the player their overall Killer Goal score.

The Victory Cube Patch also implements some anti-disconnect and anti-AFK components to help with the frequent problem of players leaving matches. A survivor that rage quits more than five minutes after a trial has started will automatically award the killer with +4 Killer Goal. A survivor that decides to quit during the round’s loading screen will award +2 Killer Goal. If a killer happens to disconnect at any time, their Killer Goal will equal 0 (zero) which will also result in a -1 pip for that Trial.

Dead by Daylight is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Victory Cube Patch is live now, so get out there and throw some people on hooks and savagely murder them, in the game only, of course. What do you think of the new changes to the way that Killers are played? Do you think this system makes the killers’ objectives more streamlined rather than farming for Bloodpoints?
