Dead By Daylight’s Next Killer Is A Horrifying Boogeyman (VIDEO)

Dead By Daylight The Dredge

Asymmetrical survival title Dead by Daylight is still basking in murderous mayhem 5 years since it debuted, and developer Behavior Interactive celebrated the title’s extended longevity with a recent 6th Anniversary Broadcast. Touting all sorts of sneak peeks and news regarding the future of the slasher sim, the title’s next big chapter is set to introduce an all-new monster to the proceedings, and it looks to be one of the more horrible in its catalog.

Titled ‘Roots of Dread,’ the 24th chapter of Dead By Daylight, the Entity is bringing forth an all-new original monster called The Dredge. Inspired by Boogeyman folklore, the grotesque fiend bears some very bizarre anatomy, possessing numerous heads, limbs, claws, and tentacles as well as large spikes protruding from its body. According to Behaviour, The Dredge is meant to embody darkness and fear, with its powerset also keeping in line with these concepts.

For starters, The Dredge has the ability to teleport between Lockers on a given map, leaving Survivors with only the smallest windows of opportunity to enter or escape these hiding places. Its other signature ability, Night Cycle, is built up over the course of a match and when topped out, covers the entire map in darkness, leaving The Dredge as the only clearly visible object in the distance. Behavior confirmed three unique Perks will come with the monster, but didn’t go into detail, only hinting they were “themed around chaos, secrets, and corruption.”

For this Chapter, Dead By Daylight will also introduce Haddie Kaur, a new psychically-inclined Survivor with dual heritage to Northern India and Quebec. According to lore, Haddie has the ability to see Bleeds, or rips in reality opened by the game’s ominous evil overlord, The Entity. Due to this insight, she’s encountered a fair share of monsters, making her a capable rival to the likes of The Dredge. In addition, Haddie has her own unique perks themed around “paranormal insight, proficiency with occult items, and her own temerity.”

Lastly, the new map coming in Roots of Dread is called Garden of Joy. While certainly conjuring a feeling of innocence, the area seems to be anything but. Located in an unnamed small American town, this seemingly perfect suburbia is teased to be delved into a very dark secret, one that takes the form of the hideous Dredge. The map itself appears to be quite the lovely property on the outside, but the inside is described as “wrong” and “twisted,” made to parallel the town’s own internal ugliness.

This latest Dead by Daylight chapter is scheduled to go live starting June 7th but is currently available for beta-testing to those with access to the Public Test Build. With over a year of content in the pipeline, Roots of Dread is only the beginning of the horror game’s incoming content, which also includes 3 more chapters in the works, 4 Tomes in store for The Archives, various quality-of-life updates, as well as new iterations of annual events such as a new 6th Anniversary celebration that officially kicks off on June 16th.
