Tons of surprises and announcements showed up one after the other at Gamescom this year and there’s exciting enough news for THQ Nordic and company alone. Not only did they announce their acquisition of Darksiders studio Gunfire Games, said publisher and studio Airship Syndicate also whipped up an incredible gameplay trailer Darksiders Genesis. Announced earlier this season, THQ Nordic shined a light on the next in line to the Darksiders IP with a stunning cinematic trailer. Inspired by the renown properties such as Diablo, the series takes their own spin on nephilim. Here’s their story with Darksiders Genesis:

From the dawn of creation, the council has maintained the Balance across existence. Carrying out their orders are the Horsemen, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) who have pledged themselves to the Council and been granted immense power.

However, this power came at a tragic cost: the Horsemen were ordered to use their newfound strength to wipe out the rest of their kind. What followed was a bloody battle on Eden where the Horsemen, obeying the will of the Council, annihilated the Nephilim.”

Darksiders Genesis is a top-down action adventure that takes place in the Darksiders universe. It introduces the fourth and final horseman – Strife – who’s been summoned to save humankind from complete annihilation at the merciless hands of Lucifer. The game will feature “intense combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, epic boss battles and serpent holes from heaven to hell.” That sounds like one hell of a ride!
