Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Will Not Be Available At Launch
Cyberpunk 2077 firmly cemented itself at the recently finished E3 this year as the most highly anticipated game of the next year. The game dazzled many with two gorgeous new trailers during the big Microsoft press conference, and surprised everyone with an appearance by none other than Keanu Reeves. It continued to only further amaze with hands-on experiences provided to the lucky attendees. With the game providing such a vibrant world of the future, many have wondered if it might support multiplayer gameplay. Well, CD Projekt RED has spoken about when Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer would be a possibility, were it to occur.
Cyberpunk 2077’s lead quest designer Pawel Sasko recently spoke with Eurogamer about many aspects related to the project. During the interview, Sasko does confirm that there will not be any multiplayer capabilities at the game’s launch. To give fans some hope that CD Projekt RED has not entirely counted out the possibility of multiplayer after launch, Sasko had this to say:
We’re not really working on multiplayer, our sole focus is single-player. We’ll do that, then we’ll see. We’re not saying no but we’re not saying yes. If something does happen it will definitely be post-launch and that’s as much as I can say right now.”
Not having multiplayer at launch very well may be for the best, considering the game’s heavy focus on the single-player narrative and the time the wide audience of players would need to fully experience it before moving on to multiplayer content. Implementing multiplayer months after launch has seemed to work for Rockstar Games, and Sasko even confirmed that CD Projekt RED has discussed following this model, even though they may not be specifically working on doing that at the moment. Still, it is quite nice for CD Projekt RED to be so open about their plans for the game, and to be so true to their narrative-focused core competencies. With such care being taken, Cyberpunk 2077’s story, much like its world of the future, is sure to be breathtaking. Just like you, dear reader.
