Critical Role Animated Series Makes A Major Deal With Amazon Prime

Critical Role

Earlier this year, the cast and crew of the incredible D&D tabletop gaming program Critical Role began a Kickstarter to bring about an animated show of their adventures in the Vox Machina campaign. Fans blew the Kickstarter out of the water, contributing over 11 million dollars to the project and turn the mere one episode into a full animated series. While the series won’t be coming for quite a while, the cast, crew, and fans alike are in for a big treat as it was recently revealed that Amazon has ordered 2 seasons of the show.

A recent update to the Kickstarter’s webpage reveals the news of the recent partnership. According to the post, the show will not only be broadcast exclusively on Amazon Prime but the company has given the crew at Critical Role and Titmouse the freedom and funds to create a whole 2 seasons of the show with an additional 2 episodes a season.

Our friends at Amazon have partnered with us to broadcast Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina exclusively on Amazon Prime Video! And that’s not all… This partnership has allowed us to create TWO ENTIRE SEASONS and an additional TWO episodesper season. That’s a total of 24 episodes of animated Vox Machina goodness that we cannot wait to share with you.”

With a lot more freedom to play with, the crew will not only be able to complete the Briarwood arc of the Vox Machina campaign but they’ll be able to show some of the other iconic storylines from the teams first live-campaign series. It is worth noting that the Critical Role team also expressed in the update that backers will still be able to watch the two-part special kicking the whole series off before anybody else, and they’ll be able to watch the first season of the show for free. How all of this will work was left unclear but it should all be worked out and ready for viewing next year.

The first season of the show was estimated to arrive sometime late in 2020, and while it still doesn’t seem to have a release date the developers of the show seem to be making good progress. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the fruits of the Kickstarter stretch goals that are set to arrive before then, like the recent Halloween special seeing cast member Travis Willingham be harassed inside a haunted house by his friends dressed as creepy clowns.
