Retro Games Announces Commodore 64 Mini Console – Equipped With 64 Games!
Today, the retro-minded subset of gamer culture has largely been consumed by the launch of the Super NES Classic Edition. This is Nintendo’s second foray into re-purposing a collection of the most fondly remembered (and most possessing easily obtainable licensing rights) software titles of one of their earlier gaming platforms into one convenient device. However, since the larger conversation about both the NES Classic and Super NES Classic Editions has mostly been about the difficulty of obtaining said devices, this has now left other gaming icons of earlier eras an opportunity to similarly capitalize on and deliver a more easily obtainable device. Such is the case with Retro Games’ announcement of the Commodore 64 Mini.
Retro Games has announced the C64 Mini and has provided many details about the device on the official C64 website. The device, to be sold for a suggested price of $70, is a half-sized replica of the original Commodore 64 keyboard, which has an HDMI port and two USB ports, allowing for another keyboard to be used. For those looking for a more traditional gaming experience, the C64 Mini also comes with a joystick that can be used on the 64 classic games pre-loaded onto the device.
Some of the classic games pre-installed on the device are California Games, Gribbly’s Day Out, and Nobby the Aardvark. Retro Games has stated that they plan to make pre-orders for the device available soon so that the early adopters can receive the device in time for the upcoming holiday season. Hopefully, a greater percentage of those interested in the device will be able to obtain one than the same portion of Super NES Classic Edition seekers.
