Civilization VI Releases Battle Royale Mode “Red Death” (VIDEO)
Civilization VI has been out a few years but is still going strong. Firaxis has routinely issued balance patches and updates that have kept players very happy. The game also made its way to Nintendo Switch back in November with Firaxis and Aspyr saying the game exceeded sales expectations. Opening the possibility for more content on the Switch version in the future. However, this latest update for Civ 6 feels quite different with Firaxis offering a brand new entire game mode, battle royale, for players to partake in.
Earlier today, Firaxis released a trailer on the official Civilization VI YouTube channel showing off a brand new Battle Royale inspired game mode called “Red Death.” Check it out below:
Right off the bat this trailer is a pretty striking tonal shift for Civilization VI. The colorful roaming plains and miniaturized vistas have all been exchanged in favor of a toxic, post-apocalyptic hellscape. Up to 12 Players will no longer manage cities or research tech. Players are given combat units along with one civilian to protect and must explore the wasteland.
You’ll need to fight to gain XP and be strong against other players and avoid the ever-shrinking boundary of the titular “Red Death”. AI-Controlled enemies, functionally similar to the barbarians in normal Civ 6 games, will also be present. PC players can play the mode now. It’s unknown at this time if the mode will come to the Nintendo Switch version of the game as well.
