Cate Blanchett In Talks To Star In Borderlands Movie As Lilith

It has become quite evident that in the past few years, video games are becoming the next big field of reference material Hollywood is utilizing for blockbuster hits. Sonic the Hedgehog became one of the biggest box-office hits this year so far, a live-action Mortal Kombat reboot is in the works by Warner Bros and it was confirmed not too long ago that Eli Roth would by the director for a new live-action Borderlands adaptation. Now it looks like the Borderlands movie will be gaining a big name for their cast, with Cate Blanchett in talks to star as Lilith in the project.

Variety reports that Lionsgate is currently discussing a deal with Cate Blanchett to star in the new Borderlands movie. The Oscar-winning actress – perhaps best known for her work in The Lord of the Rings films and Thor: Ragnarok – would be portraying Lilith, one of the series’ main super-powered protagonists. In the franchise’s universe, Lilith is one of only six Sirens, a group of women with extraordinary abilities.

Aside from director Eli Roth and potentially Cate Blanchett, the film currently has Avi and Ari Arad serving as producers through Arad Productions, with Erik Feig co-producing through Picturestart. There’s no other word of potential casting choices for the film, but it would seem that filmmakers are looking to stay true to the story of the Borderlands games. If this deal goes through, we can likely expect similar casting announcements for other familiar characters soon. For now, let’s hope that they get Danny Devito to the voice and motion capture for Claptrap.
