Borderlands 3 Absence At The Game Awards Incites Fan Backlash
Another annual occurrence of The Game Awards has come and gone, and the marathon of big game announcements has left many fans in awe of all the great new titles and updates coming on the horizon. However, events like these cannot please everyone, and this year seems to be no different. Several games rumored to be have new information were not present this year, and one such noticeable absentee was Borderlands 3. Given this Borderlands 3 absence at The Game Awards, and how it seemed to be implied that it would be present at the show, fans have now begun expressing their outrage on social media.
Seriously… Seriously, why do you do this? Are you just trolling us about #borderlands3? You’re pissing off so many fans by doing this. We give our money and support, yet the recent posts/”hints” seem like lies whether you mean them to or not. #randypitchfork #TheGameAwards

Much of the disgruntled fan messages can be seen in response to a recent tweet made by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford on his official Twitter account. The tweet was made by Pitcher just a week before The Game Awards heavily referenced the number three, which many took as an implied teasing of Borderlands 3 news premiering at the award event. However, the lack of the threequel at the show made many fans feel as though the unspoken promise of Borderlands 3 news was unfulfilled.
Officially not buying #Borderlands3 when it comes out. If it comes out. We’ve been jerked around so much that I just don’t care anymore. And I’ve read a lot of posts saying the same thing. People are starting to move on. The hype isn’t high anymore. U fucked up @DuvalMagic

It is very possible that Pitchford did not actually intend for the tweet to indicate a Borderlands 3 reveal at The Game Awards, or that he meant it as a trollish statement, but the tweet’s time of posting so close to the event and having a “3” theme did not do much to avoid the ire of these fans. Borderlands fans do have some experiences to find comfort in with the release of Borderlands 2 VR in a few weeks. However, those looking for a brand new Borderlands adventure, it seems like their pal ClapTrap is still trapped for a little while longer.
