PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Developer Criticizes Fornite’s New Battle Royale Mode
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer, Bluehole, has decidedly spoken up about Fortnite’s battle royale mode. Recently announced for the new Epic Games title is a brand new game mode that the gaming community has instantly compared to the likeness of PUBG and the creators are none to happy about the similarities. Granted how popular the game has become, characteristics of a likely imitation would be a hard detail to miss. In a press release published by Bluehole, vice president Chang Han Kim opens up about the community’s concern:
After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known.”
Since the conception of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Bluehole and Epic Games have been routinely corresponding, given the fact the latter studio is responsible for creating the Unreal Engine 4. However, Kim and team aren’t quite fond of all the evidence pointing to the opposing studio’s transgression:
We have also noticed that Epic Games references PUBG in the promotion of Fortnite to their community and in communications with the press. This was never discussed with us and we don’t feel that it’s right.”
Furthermore, it’s no secret that Bluehole’s prized title has become an influence for their battle royale mode. According to a statement from Epic Game’s director Donald Mustard, for all intents and purposes, creating their very own adaptation was the goal. “We love battle royale games like PUBG,” said Mustard. “And thought Fortnite would make a great foundation for our own version.”
