Baldur’s Gate 3 Saves Won’t Carry Over In Next Patch
Baldur’s Gate 3 released as an early access title for PC players earlier this year, letting fans experience a brand new tale within the franchise. As with most early access games, though, nothing within Baldur’s Gate 3 is considered to be ‘final’ until the game makes it to its full release. As such, Larian Studios has previously mentioned that players won’t be able to bring their early access saves to the full release. Now, it’s been revealed that a new patch is coming that will invalidate all save files from before the update.
Patch 3 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to bring with it numerous changes to the game according to a recent post on Steam. One of the more major changes will be to the story as we know it, which is why those that have been playing through the early access game will have to start fresh with a new save file. It is possible to continue playing on the older version of the game thanks to Larian Studios implementing a second branch of the title’s story, but if players want to experience the contents of the new patch then creating a fresh save file is going to be the way to go.
The new story content could affect various characters in the world as well as the overall story itself so it makes sense that Larian would force the need for players to update to a new save. Still, as big as the game is it will likely be disheartening to see all that progress lost just to update a new storyline.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available on PC as an early access title.
