Video games are mainly known for their value as an entertainment, and often times, as a storytelling medium. Anyone that has played a rousing game of Tetris, or felt the emotional punch of the Mass Effect series can vouch for either of these sentiments. Though the idea may have its detractors, video games are also considered by many as an art form. No game in modern times comes closer to expressing this notion better than the global phenomenon Minecraft.

In Minecraft, the object is for players to explore and survive within an endless blocky realm of limitless possibilities. The game’s creative mode grants users the ability create their own worlds, needing only the paintbrushes of their imagination and stubby rectangular arms. This game feature gave birth to a new way to build virtual worlds in an easy-to-understand way. A recent video by YouTube user “Vox” offers a nice peek into the world of Minecraft art, and the effect it’s having on pop culture.
