New Details Emerge Regarding The Rumored Assassin’s Creed Vikings Game, Code-Named ‘Kingdom’
Earlier today we reported that an Easter egg within The Division 2 was discovered that suggests that the next Assassin’s Creed game will take place within the Viking era featuring, you guessed it, Vikings. On its own the Easter egg certainly isn’t a confirmation that that is the direction Ubisoft is heading in, though the folks over at Kotaku have released a new report confirming that the next game in the series will feature Vikings, and is currently in development with a broad release window of 2020.
Codenamed “Kingdoms,” the new project is handily steering away the previous rumors that were suggesting that the next Assassin’s Creed game would be going back to Italy. It should also be noted that this isn’t the first time we’ve dealt with the possibility of a Viking-themed Assassin’s Creed title. A little over a year ago, I reported on a series of concept art images by Michele Nucera that was hosted on ArtStation which, when opened up in a new tab, revealed a file name of michele-nucera-assassincreedragnarok-bay-09.jpg.
This is where the puzzle pieces begin to start coming together. The image at the top of this page is titled “Vikings’ Hell,” while the image directly above is titled “Vikings Village.” The Easter egg within the Division 2 was a poster with the word ‘Valhalla’ scrawled across the top, and the filenames for the two concept arts suggests that the next game in the epic franchise could in fact be Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok. If the Kotaku report is to be believed (and is at least somewhat accurate), chances are we’ll have an official reveal from Ubisoft to look forward to soon. For now, at least we can enjoy the incredible images shown above.
