Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Place In the Franchise’s Timeline, According to Ubisoft

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will pre-date the Brotherhood that fans have come to know so well. With the title also continuing with the split narratives between the present day and past, it’s easy to get confused as to where the story fits within the franchise’s timeline. Thankfully, Ubisoft has taken the time to give a little more insight on the subject.

During a recent Reddit AMA with Creative Director Jonathan Dumont, a few inquisitive fans brought up the question of where the game takes place in the grand scheme of the franchise. One fan brought up that they feared that the upcoming title would stray too far away from the series’ norm. Dumont assured them that the game will most definitely be an Assassin’s Creed title:

AC games are about experiencing a key moment in history, a place and time that were host to major historical events. In AC Odyssey players will visit Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, meeting historical characters like Socrates and Hippocrates. With our new dialogue system, players will be able to truly interact with history, which is something we’re really excited about. So get ready to debate with Socrates!”

As he continued, Dumont explained that Odyssey will essentially be another origins story, similar to AC Origins itself, with a large focus on the First Civilization artifacts (Eden). The title will also continue the present day storyline of Layla who was featured in the previous Egyptian title.

From a lore perspective, we wanted to tell the story of how First Civ artifacts created what would become the Templars vs Assassins story, which took place long before the Brotherhood. Also, AC Odyssey is a continuation of the modern day story from Layla, so players will pick-up right after Origins.”

It may be set far enough away to pre-date the Brotherhood itself but the tale will certainly be one for the history books. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set to release on October 2nd for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Let us know your thoughts on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and more in the comments section below.
