Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Will Have Romance Options, Here’s How It Works

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey had an exciting showcase this year at E3 2018, when Ubisoft revealed thrilling gameplay, combat, and even a world premiere trailer. The latest entry features dialogue options for the first time in franchise history, allowing players to make the conscious choice as a deceitful mercenary, saintly hero, or perhaps even something in-between. In addition to a the RPG features of a skill tree and weapon upgrades, this entails more freedom of choice than ever before and romance is part of the whole package too.

Whether you pick the male or female equivalent of the main character, Alexios or Kassandra, players can romance whomever they please. Gender won’t be an issue either! Though love interest arcs are no stranger to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, former titles involved set romances within the story rather than the player’s choice. That doesn’t mean players have to romance anyone at all. If venturing the vast world alone is a preference, that works out just as well.

To woo these characters, providing gifts is an effective method of earning their affection in addition to having a nice ‘ol chit chat. Get to know them! That doesn’t mean a romance will lead to a single faithful companion. As a matter of fact, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s creative director Jonathan Dumont informed that they’ll likely remain a one-time fling. In response to a question by PCGamesN, Dumont said:

You go from an island or a new place in the world, and you’ll romance a character there, but it’s not like ‘I found the love of my world and I’m keeping that character’. It’s much more casual, a spur-of-the-moment type of romance.”

Casual love interests or one-night stands? The song and dance of romance? It’s all up to you, and that’s fantastic! What do you think of this newfound freedom of choice in the A.C. franchise?
