Anthem Demo Will Be “Super Different” In Terms Of Balance, No Tutorials
The Anthem demo is almost here for those that have VIP access from pre-ordering the game, or for those that are existing members of EA/Origin access. It was recently revealed that the demo would feature a different build than the final game, and BioWare’s Mark Darrah has gone even further and broken down more of what players can expect when they dive into the demo.
Taking to social media, Darrah explains that the demo of Anthem will start somewhere in the middle of the game. Because it is starting mid-game there will be no tutorials to guide players around the various controls for the game, and as such this also means that players won’t be able to choose who they play as. The tweet can be seen below:
So how’s the Anthem demo different from the game?
– we start you in the middle
– no tutorials
– no pilot picker
– balance is super different
– economy is completely different
– 6 weeks less bug fixes

According to Mark Darrah, the demo will be six weeks worth of bug fixes and changes behind the final build of the game. This means that the overall balancing of the game will likely be noticeably different from when it makes its full release in late February. Darrah also explains that the flight mechanics in the demo won’t feel quite as fluid for keyboard and mouse players as it will in the final build of the game. Other small changes include that a “few things” are renamed for clarity in the main game, so players may notice some wording differences when transitioning from the demo to the final build.
– with only 1 story arc, I think the mission/stronghold/freeplay balance will be off a bit
– slightly less nuanced PC controls
– we’ve renamed a few things for clarity in the main game— Mark Darrah (@BioMarkDarrah) January 19, 2019
The VIP access demo will begin for pre-orders and EA/Origins Access subscribers on January 25th. Anthem is set to release on February 22nd for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
