Destiny 2 Nerfed Two Of The Best PvP Weapons, Players Are Pissed
Destiny 2: Forsaken introduced two incredibly powerful weapons: Luna’s Howl and Not Forgotten. Both of these hand cannons are rewards for completing some difficult challenges within the Crucible, but the payoff was well worth the time and effort. Unfortunately, the two revolvers appear to be a little too powerful and the developers and planning to alter the way the weapons operate. Naturally, many fans are not happy with these upcoming changes.
In a recent Bungie blog post, the team explained that after significant feedback, internal discussion, and playtesting, they have come to the conclusion that the two put out too much damage per second compared to other primary weapons. As such, the studio felt that they need to balance the weapons out. This way, they are both still incredibly powerful in the right hands of players who have earned them, but not too powerful where they would be overbearing on players who have yet to gain either.
The team at Bungie is aiming to change the “Magnificent Howl” perk specifically as it rewards precision hits a little too much. To fix this, the developers are hoping to alter the firing speed and damage output the two deal out while retaining some of the current aspects that make them unique. The Magnificent Howl perk will be altered to only change the body shot damage, making it so the weapon can still be used to devastating effect in the right hands.
Magnificent Howl (the unique perk on these weapons) is too effective. It works in a neutral setting and rewards players for getting precision shots—something they would have done naturally. As a result, the time to kill of the game shifts to meet this new benchmark, and players feel that the majority of primary weapons in Destiny 2 cannot compete with these pinnacle weapons. Our current plan is to make Luna’s Howl and Not Forgotten the only 150 RPM precision Hand Cannons. They will maintain some aspects of their current behavior while taking on the firing speed and damage of the 150 RPM Hand Cannons. Magnificent Howl will also be adjusted so that it increases only body-shot damage, resulting in a two headshot/one body-shot kill. Magnificent Howl will still give an advantage due to requiring less precision hits for optimal time to kill.”
The way that Bungie has presented the upcoming changes gives players ample time to share their thoughts on the matter. Bungie has expressed that they’ll keep an eye on the conversation of whether or not the changes are warranted and may alter the what they do in the future. Despite the open dialogue, it hasn’t stopped fans from getting full blown upset over the “Luna’s Howl” and “Not Forgotten” nerfs, venting their frustrations on social media:

So the grinding for them was a waste? Got it. The point of pinnacle was for them to be powerful. I could understand if there was no viable way to defeat them but really? Unbelievable.

From the looks of things, the damage output isn’t going to be changed too drastically. Instead of getting a double-tap headshot kill, players will only need to take one more shot than before. This will maintain the weapons incredibly fast time to kill while giving everybody else a little more breathing room to fight back.
