Destiny 2: The Last Word Trailer Teases The Return Of Thorn (VIDEO)
Today the iconic hand cannon in Destiny lore, the Last Word, returns in Destiny 2. The weapon was known as a powerhouse within the PvP of the first Destiny title and is sure to be have a strong showing within the sequel as well. A new trailer showcasing the weapon also hints that another iconic hand cannon, the Thorn, will also be making an appearance in the near future.
The trailer plays up the Last Word as being a hero’s weapon as it shows the hand cannon destroying every foe in its path. Of course every hero needs a villain, and towards the end of the video a small clip shows Thorn-like needles landing into a wall. The trailer indicates that the Thorn will be making its way into the game sometime during the Season of the Drifter, launching in March.
Within the lore of Destiny, the Last Word belonged to a Guardian by the name of Jaren Ward who was later murdered. The weapon was then handed down to Ward’s protege and adopted son Shin Malphur who used it to track down and avenge his mentor’s death at the hands of Dredgen Yor. In a legendary showdown Malphur and the Last Word killed Yor, who wielded the Thorn – a corrupted version of the hand cannon Rose.
It makes sense that with the re-introduction of the Last Word, the developers would want to play up the showdown with the Thorn once more. Even more fitting that the corrupted hand cannon appears within the Season of the Drifter, a character who has some connections to the Shadows of Yor and the Weapons of Sorrow.
Destiny 2 is available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Will you be taking on the quest to acquire the Last Word once more?
