Next Xbox Could Dominate PS5, Says Analyst
Without a shadow of a doubt, 2018 has been a great year for Xbox. With the launch of Xbox One X, the adaptive controller, and continued support of their backwards compatibility program, Microsoft is proving itself in an upward trend for their gaming base in terms of community support and sales. It hasn’t been an easy road for the gaming giant since the release of the Xbox One in 2013, especially against their most formidable competitor in Sony. However, some believe they can beat out the future PS5.
Known industry analyst Mat Piscatella, sheds light on the progress the company has made since its initial launch approximately five years ago. Speaking to the massive improvement Xbox has made within 2018 alone, here’s what he had to say:
Xbox One sales show the highest growth of the 3 major HW platforms in the US this year, and the Xbox One X in particular has been performing phenomenally. Console warring on the internet is one of the dumber things people do, unfortunately.

While the word “phenomenal” might seem like an overstatement, due in part by the fact that the Xbox One is not the leading in amount of sold consoles compared to its competition. In response to one Twitter user’s skepticism, Piscatella says: “YoY growth like this at this point in cycle has never been seen before, driven by launch of X and new content delivery efforts. It’s a mid-gen turnaround the market’s never seen before. This qualifies as phenomenal, even if not market leading.”
It doesn’t quite catch up to the market lead that the PlayStation 4 has, but it’s certainly an incentive that Microsoft is more than willing to seize in order to overwhelm the next generation. In a report by Engadget, after analyzing the console’s recent years since the Xbox One’s launch, they speculate the coming years will prove exceedingly fruitful in terms of profit and overall reception.
“It took about five years, two mid-generation console releases and a brand-new gamepad to get us here, but Xbox is back,” reads Jessica Conditt’s report. “Microsoft is finally in control of the video game conversation once again, and in 2019, its runway is clear. Xbox is about to blast off.”
