Elon Musk Wanted A Mario Kart And Tesla Partnership
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has demonstrated a number of times his inability to mince words on social media, with the tech-focused magnate occasionally offering his opinion on gaming matters like Fortnite and Half-Life 3. As such, questions often pour in from fans wondering what other hot takes Musk has rattling around his noggin.
One of these interesting exchanges recently took place over Twitter, when the billionaire was queried about a potential partnership with Nintendo. More specifically, he was asked whether a game of Mario Kart could ever make its way into Tesla’s brand of electric cars. As it turned out, Musk was already way ahead of them.

Musk’s attempt to utilize the Nintendo racer in an actual, real-life vehicle is surely and exciting idea, while at the same time disappointing as it was also unable to get off the ground. As many gamers are aware, Big N is notorious for being selective about licensing its games, which is likely why Elon Musk and Tesla ultimately ended up empty handed.
The request for Mario Kart’s inclusion was likely intended for the car brand’s v9.0 software update which occurred this past August. Tesla vehicles were notably given the ability to play old-school Atari games directly from car’s the center console, with driving-specific titles such as Pole Position utilizing the native steering wheel as a controller. As this release also came with an open invitation to potential developers, it’s possible Nintendo could eventually join up down the line. Although, Elon Musk probably shouldn’t hold his breath.
As for companies Nintendo actually does play ball with, Ubisoft seems to be in that unique position at the moment, with crossovers such as Starlink: Battle For Atlas and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle proving successful for both parties involved. If recent speculation is to be taken into consideration, perhaps we might see even more interplay between the companies sometime in the future.
