Blizzard Reveals Plans To Improve The Overwatch Viewing Experience For BlizzCon 2017 (VIDEO)

With BlizzCon and the World Cup on its way next week, Blizzard has rolled out new systems to enhance the Overwatch viewing experience. In a new developer update game director Jeff Kaplan revealed how Blizzard will be overhauling the experience to make eSports more enjoyable for viewers. Check out what he had to say in the video below:

As previously reported, teams will have uniforms that will sport their colors. To help viewers determine which team is home or away, they have created a new color palette system that will change the visuals. This new system will saturate the home team colors and de-saturate the away team. This includes tracers from shooting and explosions and is likely a welcome deviation from the previous red and blue overlay viewers are used to.

Another feature coming to the Overwatch viewing experience is an overlay system for broadcasters and observers that will allow them to see the entire map overhead at once. From this view, they will be able to see the player positions, the player status (like stunned or rooted), ultimate status, and where the action is. Blizzard hopes this will allow for a more up to date broadcast of the action for those watching.

A third-person view will also be available that will smooth out images as the action unfolds. This “smart camera” will follow the action and make it seem more cinematic rather than bouncing around with the player. Included behind the scenes, and meant to enhance the Overwatch viewing experience, is a feature that will allow broadcasters to replay moments from various angles quickly. The idea is to give viewers an instant replay that is more cinematic as well.

Aside from enhancing the Overwatch viewing experience, Blizzard is also enacting a tournament system that is automated. The hope is that this will help smooth out the process and avoid some of the issues they have had in the past. For instance, when a player unexpectedly leaves the game it will automatically pause instead of waiting for an official to do it. According to Blizzard, this is just the beginning of the company improving the eSport experience that will help fans enjoy the action in a much more streamlined way.

Will these changes make watching the Overwatch World Cup at BlizzCon 2017 more exciting? Join in on the conversation in the comment section below! Don’t forget to follow DFTG on Twitter for live gaming and entertainment news 24/7!
