Changes Announced Ahead of Overwatch Competitive Season 6 (VIDEO)
With Overwatch‘s Competitive Season 5 drawing to a close, Blizzard Entertainment is already planning for the future. They seem to be pretty good at doing that, especially with the recent announcement of Junkertown, the newest map coming to the game. In the latest developer update video, Jeff “From the Overwatch Team” Kaplan informs players of what to expect when Competitive Season 6 kicks off.
To begin, Kaplan talks of the changing of the seasons. The length at which they run, that is. Instead of the three month long format they’ve been using, a competitive season will now only run for two months. For those that got to enjoy the beta version of the mode might remember that a season was only one month long. The changes are due to the fact that players found one month to be too short and three months to possibly be a bit too lengthy. Two months just might be the right amount of time.
Also coming to Competitive Season 6 is a change to the control maps and how many wins it will take to bring a team to victory. Instead of best-of-five, control maps will now only be a best-of-three series. Skill Rating decay will be cut in half, while Competitive Point values will be receiving some tweaks. Placement matches will offer a more precise skill rating and higher-level players will be waiting a bit longer for matches, but only due to a better balance being constructed. All of this can be found in the video above, but be sure to stay tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as future changes are announced.
Competitive Season 5 runs until August 28, with the following season to begin shortly after. What say you, heroes?
