DCEU’s The Flash Movie Has Officially Been Titled Flashpoint

The Flash Movie officially titled Flashpoint

After losing two directors and facing a full rewrite, the Flash movie – starring Ezra Miller – is moving full steam ahead.  Though there has not been much news about the film since earlier this year, DC Comics has revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con that the official title of the Flash movie is Flashpoint.  Those familiar with the comics – or the most recent season of the Grant Gustin-lead The Flash television show on the CW – know that Flashpoint represents an enormous shift in the current state of the DCEU, as well as severe, long-lasting repercussions.

Flashpoint begins when The Flash – Barry Allen – travels back in time to stop the Reverse-Flash from killing his mother, the traumatic event that puts Barry on the path towards becoming a forensic scientist for the Central City Police Department.  Successfully preventing the Reverse-Flash from killing Barry’s mother sends ripples through the entire DC Universe, altering the lives of many of its superheroes.  While Barry attempts to figure out what happened to the timeline, a brutal war wages between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlantis.

One such change in the timeline that could make its way onto the big screen is that Thomas Wayne – Bruce Wayne’s father – is actually Batman in Flashpoint, with Bruce being the one that was murdered.  Though the recent rumors of Ben Affleck exiting the role of Batman have been seemingly put to rest, the timeline changes within the Flash movie could provide Warner Brothers with the means to trade Affleck’s Batman out for a different actor, at the same time ushering in a more ruthless vigilante.  This is all simply speculation, though; It is possible that the events of Flashpoint could be contained within the Flash’s solo outing, with Barry going back in time in order to prevent himself from rescuing his mother, much in the same way the CW’s Flashpoint timeline played out.
