Half-Life 2 VR Mod Achieves Steam Greenlight Campaign (VIDEO)
In the wake of Virtual Reality gaming’s popularity, many developers and modders have come out of the wood-work to create their own contributions to the ever growing library. With the rise of Fallout 4 VR’s popularity, it seems that converting popular titles to the VR experience is the new black in popular gaming trends. Now one of Valve’s most popular titles will be getting the same treatment, as Half-Life 2 VR has been officially added to the Steam Greenlight production club for past, present, and future gaming fanatics. Check out the Greenlight trailer uploaded by one of the mod’s chief creators, Worm Slayer, below:
Last month, a teaser trailer for the VR mod was released on YouTube by SourceVR Mod Team, promising that fans would once again receive what looked to be a full game conversion into a virtual reality experience. Now, with the official Greenlight campaign currently running on Steam, it looks like the modding crew behind this game development will definitely deliver on their promise.
From the look of the trailer, it appears that the VR game will be compatible with the motion controllers, instead of just a keyboard and mouse like many virtual reality titles are. It also appears that Half-Life 2 VR will also include a remade 3D GUI which is designed for VR support (that means updated graphics for better visual input in the headsets), and many different playing options catering to different play-styles.
As of right now, the Steam Greenlight page for this title doesn’t have a specific release date, though it does promise that the mod is coming “soon”, and that the mod will be available for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
