The wait for Final Fantasy XVI news has been a difficult one, with fans of the long-running series having very little to go on since the title was originally announced back in 2020. Thankfully the wait appears to be over, as a new trailer for the game has debuted that also confirms the title’s Summer 2023 release window.

An action-packed new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI debuted as part of Sony’s latest State of Play presentation. The majority of said trailer is devoted to Eikons, beings of power that are tied to a single “Dominant” that controls – or perhaps think they control – their respective Eikon’s power. The Eikons shown in the trailer are Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, Phoenix, Titan, Ramuh, and Odin, though there could be more discoverable throughout the game. Check it out below:

Also on display in the new Final Fantasy XVI trailer are more locations we’ll get to visit throughout the title, many of which are clearly inspired by Producer Naoki Yoshida’s work on Final Fantasy XIV. FFXIV composer Masayoshi Soken is also listed as the main composer for this game, so FFXIV’s influence should come through quite clearly. If that’s not thrilling enough, Devil May Cry combat director Ryota Suzuki is helming the direction of the combat for the game.

All in all Final Fantasy XVI has all the elements to be hugely successful, we need only wait one more year to experience the game for ourselves.

Final Fantasy XVI is slated to release in Summer 2023.
