While Nintendo prepares for the next generation of their game consoles, their company is also laying the groundwork for what they hope to be a great foothold in the mobile gaming industry. However, each major step they have made so far has yielded a very mixed combination of success and blowback. Miiverse had social media talking when it released last year, but failed to keep interest for most of its userbase. Super Mario Run broke many iOS records, but the game was met with much criticism. Now, the release schedule of their games has caused Nintendo to choose to delay the release of their new mobile Animal Crossing game.

Nintendo’s latest earnings release has confirmed that the mobile Animal Crossing game announced last year to be released by the end of Q1 (or March 31st) of this year is now going to be delayed. The earnings release states that the game will now arrive in the next fiscal year (starting on April 1st of this year and ending on March 31st, 2018), but does not specify when exactly the game will be coming. The release mentions that this delay is meant to accommodate the newly configured released schedule for Fire Emblem Heroes coming to mobile on February 2nd and Super Mario Run’s Android Marketplace release in March. This delay will allow these titles to begin their releases with reduced competition among Nintendo’s projects.

There still is no footage and very little detail of the game released yet, but given Animal Crossing’s significant fanbase, it is probably safe to say that many fans are wishing they could time travel like players of the AC games have been known to do.
