House of the Dragon Teaser Previews Game of Thrones Prequel (VIDEO)
As the streaming wars wage on, WarnerMedia continues to find ways to add more support for their HBO Max streaming service and entice more subscribers. Given the service’s name, franchises native to the original HBO platform are a key focus. One such franchise is Game of Thrones, which may have disappointed some fans with its final season, but still holds a strong space in pop culture and has influenced other streaming services to make their own big-budget fantasy series. Now, HBO Max has released a House of the Dragon teaser that provides the first look at the Game of Thrones prequel series.
HBO Max has released the House of the Dragon teaser on their official YouTube channel. The series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and is based off of George R. R. Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood. The trailer begins with a shot of Doctor Who’s Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, who provides narration for the trailer. While no actors from the original Game of Thrones series are present obviously, some familiar elements are glimpsed. These include close-up shots of a Hand of the King pin worn by Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower and Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaren I sitting on the Iron Throne.
Some of the other new characters seen in the House of the Dragon teaser includes Hanna star Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Ready Player One’s Olivia Cooke as Lady Alicent Hightower. The teaser also promises the franchise’s usual amount of medieval combat, including a joust and a sword fight. House of the Dragon is then confirmed to have a 2022 release window for HBO and HBO Max, though no specific month or date are given at this time. Game of Thrones fans have had to go without their favorite medieval fantasy series for a while now, and this new prequel looks like it could revive passion for the franchise. It looks like not only Winter is Coming, but fire as well.
